Olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily T member 2 (OR2T2) is a member of the olfactory receptor protein family, which are G protein-coupled receptors responsible for the detection and recognition of odorant molecules in the nasal epithelium. Like other olfactory receptors, OR2T2 has a canonical structure characterized by seven transmembrane domains and is encoded by a single coding-exon gene. Upon interaction with specific odorants, OR2T2 triggers a neuronal response that transduces signals via G proteins, ultimately leading to the perception of smell. The olfactory receptor gene family, to which OR2T2 belongs, is the largest in the human genome. Although OR2T2 has been annotated primarily for its role in olfaction, some database associations mention rare congenital syndromes, but no direct evidence supports a major disease role for this receptor. There are currently no known drugs targeting OR2T2, and the protein is not used as a biomarker or therapeutic target outside sensory biology.
