Olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily T member 27 (OR2T27) is a member of the olfactory receptor gene family, which are G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) characterized by a seven-transmembrane domain structure. OR2T27 is primarily expressed in the olfactory epithelium of the nose, where it recognizes and binds specific odorant molecules, initiating a G protein-mediated signaling cascade that results in the perception of smell. The gene is located on chromosome 1 and contains a single coding exon. While the primary biological role is in olfactory signal transduction, olfactory receptors may also have minor extranasal functions, though no specific nonolfactory roles have been established for OR2T27. There are no drugs, biomarkers, or safety concerns associated with this receptor, and it is not considered a therapeutic target in clinical medicine
