Olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily T member 3 (OR2T3) is a member of the large family of olfactory receptors responsible for the recognition of odorant molecules in the nose and initiates the neuronal response triggering perception of smell. OR2T3 is a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) characterized by a seven-transmembrane domain structure, sharing structural similarity with other neurotransmitter and hormone receptors. Olfactory receptors like OR2T3 are part of the greatest gene family in the human genome and mediate odorant signal transduction via G proteins. While olfactory receptors are primarily involved in olfaction, recent research has indicated potential roles in tissues outside the nose, implying possible, albeit not yet fully characterized, involvement in disease processes for some family members. No FDA-approved drugs are currently known to target OR2T3, and it is not established as a therapeutic or diagnostic biomarker.
