Overview

Olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily T member 6 (OR2T6) is a member of the large family of olfactory receptors, which are G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) expressed in the olfactory epithelium in the nose. These receptors detect odorant molecules and initiate a neuronal response leading to the perception of smell. OR2T6 contains seven transmembrane domains characteristic of GPCRs and participates in the G protein-mediated transduction of olfactory signals. It is encoded by a single-exon gene, and while it displays typical molecular motifs of olfactory GPCRs, there is no evidence it functions as a therapeutic target or has direct links to human disease, and it may be classified as a pseudogene in some nomenclatures[2][4][5][7]. OR2T6 is not considered a therapeutic target, but rather a sensory receptor, and in some annotations may be a pseudogene[4][6]. No known drugs, established disease roles, nor clinical biomarkers or safety concerns are associated with this receptor[2][5][7].
