Overview

Olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily T member 7 (OR2T7) is a member of the large family of olfactory receptors, which are a subclass of class A (rhodopsin-like) G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs)[2][5]. OR2T7 shares the characteristic 7-transmembrane domain structure of GPCRs and is responsible for the recognition of odorant molecules and resulting G protein-mediated signal transduction, particularly within the olfactory epithelium[2][5]. It contains conserved motifs typical of olfactory receptors and has been shown to be expressed in certain non-olfactory tissues, such as glioblastoma cells[3]. A somatic mutation (D125V) in OR2T7 has been associated with reduced progression-free survival in glioblastoma, suggesting a potential disease-modifying or prognostic role[3]. The functional consequences of this mutation likely relate to altered GPCR signaling, particularly impacting the p38 MAPK tumor-suppressor pathway[3]. While OR2T7 shares structural similarity with other olfactory receptors, which have been broadly implicated in cancer cell proliferation and apoptosis, its ligand profile and potential as a drug target remain to be characterized in greater detail[3][5].
