Olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily U member 2 pseudogene (OR2U2P) is a non-functional genomic locus classified among the human olfactory receptor pseudogenes. While functional olfactory receptors are G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) involved in odor detection, pseudogenes like OR2U2P contain sequence disruptions (such as mutations, frameshifts, or deletions) that prevent them from producing a functional protein. Recent advances have demonstrated that some pseudogenes may retain partial or context-specific functionality, but for OR2U2P, there is no reported biological activity, disease association, or drug relevance[1]. It is grouped with other members of the olfactory receptor family, but unlike functional receptors, it does not participate in olfactory signal transduction.
