Olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily W member 1 (OR2W1) is a cell surface receptor encoded by a single coding exon gene, part of the largest gene family in the human genome[3][4]. It possesses the canonical seven transmembrane domain structure typical of G protein-coupled receptors, and functions through odorant binding, activating G protein signaling cascades that underlie the cellular basis for olfactory perception. Expression of OR2W1 is highest in olfactory tissues, but data also indicate expression in non-olfactory tissues including liver, heart, and certain lymphomas[2]. OR2W1 is involved in diverse odorant recognition and has been studied via computational models assessing its ligand binding modes. There is no evidence of direct clinical relevance or therapeutic targeting, and it is primarily of interest for sensory biology and molecular modeling[2][3][4].
