Olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily W member 2 pseudogene (OR2W2P)

Target
OR2W2P
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Olfactory receptor family, G protein-coupled receptor (pseudogene)
01

Overview

Olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily W member 2 pseudogene (OR2W2P) is a human pseudogene that belongs to the large family of olfactory receptor genes. Olfactory receptors are G protein-coupled receptors involved in detecting odorants in the nasal epithelium, but OR2W2P itself is considered a pseudogene, meaning it no longer encodes a functional receptor protein as a result of genetic mutations[3][4]. Most human olfactory receptor pseudogenes, including OR2W2P, have lost their original olfactory function, and there is no evidence of therapeutic relevance, disease association, or drug interactions for this locus[2][3][4].
