Overview

Olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily W member 5 pseudogene (OR2W5P) is a genetic locus classified as a pseudogene, related to the family of olfactory receptor genes that typically encode G protein–coupled transmembrane proteins responsible for detection of odorants and initiation of smell perception via neuronal signaling. Although its sequence length is similar to other olfactory receptor genes, a frameshift mutation in the 3’ coding region disrupts the canonical 7-transmembrane domain structure, casting doubt on its ability to produce a functional protein. As a result, no clear biological or therapeutic function is established for this pseudogene, and it is not considered a drug target. There are no known diseases or drugs associated with it, and it serves no recognized biomarker or safety monitoring utility.
