Olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily Y member 1 (OR2Y1) is a protein-coding gene that encodes an olfactory receptor belonging to the large family of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs)[1][3]. These receptors are responsible for the recognition of odorant molecules in the nose, initiating a neuronal response that results in the perception of smell[1]. OR2Y1 and other olfactory receptors have a seven-transmembrane domain structure, characteristic of the GPCR superfamily[1]. The primary molecular function of OR2Y1 is olfactory transduction through G protein-mediated signaling mechanisms in the nasal olfactory epithelium[3].
