Olfactory receptor family 2 subfamily Z member 1 (OR2Z1) is a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) in humans that participates in the detection of odorant molecules in the nose, initiating the neuronal responses that underlie the perception of smell[1][5][8]. Like other olfactory receptors, OR2Z1 is a member of a large gene family characterized by a seven-transmembrane domain, sharing structural features with other neurotransmitter and hormone receptors[1][5][8]. These receptors are typically encoded by single-exon genes. While expression of OR2Z1 has been confirmed in the olfactory epithelium, it generally does not serve as a therapeutic drug target, and there are no established drug interactions or clinical applications at this time[3][5][8]. Some studies have linked olfactory receptor gene variations to non-olfactory disease processes, but no prominent role for OR2Z1 has been established in human disease[5].
