Overview

Olfactory receptor family 3 subfamily A member 1 (OR3A1) is a human G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) that detects odors by binding specific volatile molecules in the nasal epithelium, initiating signal transduction leading to the perception of smell[3][4][6]. OR3A1 is part of the large olfactory receptor family, all encoded by single-exon genes, structurally unified by a 7-transmembrane domain typical of GPCRs[3][6]. OR3A1 recognizes certain odorant compounds, including *helional*, *heliotropylacetone*, *lilial*, *cyclamen aldehyde*, and *foliaver*, which then activate the receptor[4]. OR3A1 and similar olfactory receptors are not considered therapeutic targets in current clinical practice or drug development, and have no established role in disease or as drug targets[3][4].
