Overview

Olfactory receptor family 4 subfamily A member 10 pseudogene (OR4A10P) is a member of the human olfactory receptor gene family, belonging to the G protein-coupled receptor superfamily. Olfactory receptor pseudogenes, such as OR4A10P, are remnants of receptor genes that have accumulated mutations and lost function; they do not translate into functional proteins and are not involved in odor detection or signal transduction. While the functional members of this gene family mediate the recognition of odorants via a seven transmembrane domain structure and G protein-coupled signaling, OR4A10P is specifically classified as a pseudogene and has no protein product nor physiological function[5][8]. Human olfactory receptor pseudogenes like OR4A10P are numerous in the genome and represent evolutionary remnants of the olfactory receptor gene family[5]. The canonical abbreviation "OR4A10P" is standardized and commonly used in genomic databases[2][3][4][5][7][8]. Aliases such as "OR4A25P" and "HsOR11.11.7P" reference earlier nomenclature or alternative database entries[1][2][3][5]. This entry represents a non-functional molecule and should be excluded from lists of targets relevant to drug discovery or disease biology unless pseudogene biology or regulatory RNA function is explicitly of interest.
