Overview

Olfactory receptor family 4 subfamily A member 47 (OR4A47) is a member of the largest family of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) responsible for the detection of odorant molecules in the nose, initiating neuronal signals that lead to the perception of smell[2][3][4][5][7][10]. OR4A47, like other olfactory receptors, is a single coding-exon gene and possesses a characteristic 7-transmembrane domain structure shared with other GPCRs such as neurotransmitter and hormone receptors[2][3][4][5][6][7][10]. While the primary role of olfactory receptors is in chemosensory signaling within the nasal epithelium, some recent research indicates that members of this receptor family may have functions in non-olfactory tissues and potential disease associations, but there is no reported therapeutic targeting, approved drugs, or strong evidence of involvement in major human diseases for OR4A47 specifically[1]. At present, OR4A47 is not regarded as a therapeutic target, nor is it associated with clinical biomarkers or safety concerns.
