Olfactory receptor family 4 subfamily A member 48 pseudogene (OR4A48P) is a human gene classified as a pseudogene within the olfactory receptor family. Olfactory receptor genes generally encode proteins that interact with odorant molecules in the nose to initiate the perception of smell, and are part of the G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) superfamily. However, as a pseudogene, OR4A48P is presumed non-functional and does not produce a functional protein product. While some pseudogenes can have regulatory roles through RNA transcripts, there is currently no evidence that OR4A48P has such functions. It is not considered a therapeutic target, has no known disease associations, and is not actionable in drug discovery or clinical contexts[2][5][6].
