Olfactory receptor family 4 subfamily A member 5 (OR4A5) is a member of the largest GPCR family in the human genome, predominantly expressed in the olfactory epithelium. OR4A5 protein consists of seven transmembrane domains typical of GPCRs and is responsible for recognizing specific odorant molecules in the nasal cavity, which in turn triggers G protein-mediated signal transduction and a neuronal response that leads to the perception of smell. While the detailed ligand specificity of OR4A5 remains uncharacterized, the broader olfactory receptor family is noted for its ability to detect a diverse range of odorants using the 7-transmembrane architecture. OR4A5 does not currently have recognized roles in disease or as a drug target, and its main biological function is restricted to olfactory sensory transduction.
