Olfactory receptor family 4 subfamily B member 1 (OR4B1) is a member of the large olfactory receptor gene family, which encodes G protein-coupled receptors responsible for recognizing and binding odorant molecules in the nose, initiating neuronal responses that lead to the perception of smell. OR4B1, like other olfactory receptors, contains a canonical 7-transmembrane domain structure and participates in G protein-mediated signal transduction. These receptors are encoded by single coding-exon genes and represent the largest gene family in the human genome. OR4B1 is primarily associated with sensory pathways and has not been widely implicated as a therapeutic target outside its physiological role in olfaction[1][2][5][7][9].
