Overview

Olfactory receptor family 4 subfamily C member 11 (OR4C11) is a member of the olfactory receptor gene family, the largest family of G protein-coupled receptors in the human genome. Olfactory receptors such as OR4C11 enable the detection of odorant molecules in the nasal cavity, initiating neuronal responses responsible for smell perception. These receptors share a seven-transmembrane domain architecture common to many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors. The gene is located on chromosome 11. OR4C11 encodes a protein that functions in the olfactory signaling pathway, mediating G protein-coupled transduction of odorant signals. The physiological role of OR4C11 is primarily restricted to olfactory sensory neurons, and it is not considered a therapeutic drug target[1][4][5][8][9]. Additional note: Although some olfactory receptors have been studied for ectopic expression and possible roles beyond the nose, including metabolic regulation, no such role or therapeutic targeting has been established for OR4C11 specifically[10].
