Olfactory receptor family 4 subfamily C member 12 (OR4C12)

Olfactory receptor family 4 subfamily C member 12 (OR4C12) is a protein-coding gene and member of the large family of olfactory receptors, which are responsible for the detection of odorant molecules in the nose and initiation of a neuronal response that leads to the perception of smell[3][5]. OR4C12 is classified as a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) characterized by seven transmembrane domains, a structural feature it shares with many other neurotransmitter and hormone receptors[1][3][5]. These receptors interact with odor molecules to trigger G protein-mediated signal transduction within olfactory sensory neurons.
