Olfactory receptor family 4 subfamily C member 14 pseudogene (OR4C14P) is classified as a pseudogene within the large superfamily of olfactory receptor genes, which are typically G protein-coupled receptors responsible for the detection of odorant molecules and initiation of neuronal responses in the nose[3]. As a pseudogene, OR4C14P is generally considered a non-functional genomic segment resulting from mutations that disrupt the original coding sequence; it does not encode a functional protein, and there is no evidence that it is expressed or has any established biological or pathological role[3][4]. Some olfactory receptor pseudogenes elsewhere in genomes (including humans and model organisms) have been described to occasionally retain regulatory or rare protein-coding capacity through mechanisms such as stop codon readthrough, but there is no evidence for this for OR4C14P specifically[4]. Therefore, OR4C14P is not regarded as a therapeutic target, biomarker, or disease-associated molecule.
