Olfactory receptor family 4 subfamily C member 45 (OR4C45) is a member of the large olfactory receptor family, which are G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) with a characteristic seven-transmembrane domain structure responsible for detecting odorants in the nasal epithelium[5][3]. These receptors initiate the neuronal response underlying the perception of smell through G protein-mediated signal transduction[5][3]. OR4C45 is encoded by a single coding-exon gene and belongs to the largest gene family in the human genome[5][3]. While olfactory receptors share structural features with neurotransmitter and hormone receptors, their primary known function is in chemosensory signal transduction[5][3]. There is currently no direct evidence linking OR4C45 to disease or identifying it as the target of any approved drugs[5].
