Olfactory receptor family 4 subfamily D member 1 (OR4D1) is a protein-coding gene that encodes one of the human olfactory receptors, which are part of the large G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) superfamily. These receptors are located in the nasal epithelium and are responsible for initiating neuronal responses that lead to the perception of odors. OR4D1 shares the characteristic seven-transmembrane domain structure of GPCRs and is involved in the recognition and G protein-mediated transduction of odorant signals. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome. While most olfactory receptors primarily contribute to smell, there are no known therapeutic drugs or established roles for OR4D1 in disease, and it is not a recognized biomarker or therapeutic target outside its physiological sensory role[2][3][4][5][6][7][8].
