OR4D10
Molecular classification
G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR), Seven transmembrane helix receptor, Odorant receptor, Receptor

Overview

Olfactory receptor family 4 subfamily D member 10 (OR4D10) is a protein-coding gene in humans responsible for encoding a G protein-coupled receptor involved in olfactory signal transduction. OR4D10 is localized in the olfactory epithelium, where it detects odorant molecules and initiates the neuronal cascade that leads to the perception of smell. This receptor features the classic seven transmembrane domain structure found in all GPCRs, highlighting its evolutionary relation to hormone and neurotransmitter receptors. The gene is part of the largest gene family in the human genome, dedicated to the recognition and discrimination of odorants. There is no evidence for disease association or interaction with drugs, nor is it used as a clinical biomarker or therapeutic target; its function is specialized for sensory biology.
