Overview

Olfactory receptor family 4 subfamily D member 11 (OR4D11) is a member of the olfactory receptor (OR) gene family, which encodes G protein-coupled receptors responsible for detecting odorant molecules in the nose and initiating neuronal responses leading to the perception of smell[4][3]. Like other olfactory receptors, OR4D11 is predicted to have a seven-transmembrane domain structure, characteristic of class A rhodopsin-like GPCRs[3][4]. However, in humans, OR4D11 is classified as a pseudogene, indicated by the alternative symbol “OR4D11P,” and is not believed to code for a functional protein[4]. As a result, it is not considered a therapeutic target, has no known interacting drugs, and does not serve as a biomarker or present specific safety concerns. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome, but a significant fraction—including OR4D11—are pseudogenes without demonstrated physiological or pathological functions[3][4].
