Olfactory receptor family 4 subfamily D member 5 (OR4D5) is a member of the olfactory receptor family, which is the largest gene family in the human genome. These receptors are G protein-coupled receptors characterized by a 7-transmembrane domain structure and are primarily expressed in the nasal olfactory epithelium, where they interact with odorant molecules to initiate neuronal signaling responsible for the sense of smell. OR4D5 is encoded by a single-exon gene, and its main recognized function is the recognition and signal transduction of odorants. Although olfactory receptors are increasingly studied for potential roles in extranasal tissues and disease, there is no evidence specifically connecting OR4D5 to therapeutic interventions or known drug interactions.
