Olfactory receptor family 4 subfamily D member 6 (OR4D6) is a protein encoded by the OR4D6 gene in humans. It belongs to the large family of olfactory receptors, which are G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) characterized by a 7-transmembrane domain structure. OR4D6 is primarily involved in the detection of odorants in the nasal epithelium, initiating the neuronal response necessary for the perception of smell. While it conceptually could serve as a target for molecules affecting olfactory function, there are no current drugs or therapeutic strategies targeting OR4D6. Its main biological role is in the olfactory signaling pathway, contributing to the diversity of odor detection in humans.
