Overview

Olfactory receptor family 4 subfamily D member 7 pseudogene (OR4D7P), also known as OST724, is a human gene classified as a pseudogene. Pseudogenes are gene sequences resembling functional genes but are typically non-functional due to mutations, insertions, deletions, or premature stop codons that prevent them from encoding a functional protein. OR4D7P originates from the olfactory receptor gene family, which generally encodes members of the G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) superfamily involved in odorant detection, but OR4D7P itself does not produce a protein and has no demonstrated physiological function. While some pseudogenes have been shown to participate in complex gene regulatory networks or influence expression of their parent genes at the RNA level, there is no direct evidence that OR4D7P performs functional regulatory roles in humans. It is not considered a therapeutic target, has no known drug or biomarker associations, and is recognized as a non-coding, inactive genomic element.

Biological functions

No direct biological function as this is a pseudogeneSome pseudogenes serve regulatory functions at the RNA level, such as transcript interference or engaging in RNA-mediated gene regulation
03

Disease associations

Evidence exists that some pseudogenes (in general) can impact gene regulation involved in disease, but there is no specific disease association or role established for OR4D7P
