Olfactory receptor family 4 subfamily D member 8 pseudogene (OR4D8P) is a human pseudogene that belongs to the large olfactory receptor family of genes, which encodes G protein-coupled receptors responsible for the detection of odorant molecules and the initiation of neuronal signals for smell perception. However, as a pseudogene, OR4D8P does not produce a functional protein and is not thought to contribute to olfactory signal transduction. Olfactory receptor pseudogenes are common in the human genome, reflecting a loss of olfactory gene function over the course of primate evolution.
