Olfactory receptor family 4 subfamily G member 1 pseudogene (OR4G1P) is a member of the large olfactory receptor gene family, which typically encode G protein-coupled receptors that initiate the neuronal response to odors in the nose[1]. However, as a pseudogene, OR4G1P harbors inactivating (loss-of-function) mutations that prevent it from coding for a functional protein; consequently, it does not participate in odorant detection or signal transduction. Pseudogenes like OR4G1P are the result of evolutionary processes and are often maintained in the genome without obvious biological function or disease association[1][2]. There is no evidence that OR4G1P is involved in any disease process or is a current or potential therapeutic target.
