Target intelligence / Profile preview

Olfactory receptor family 4 subfamily G member 2 pseudogene (OR4G2P)

Target
OR4G2P
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Olfactory receptor family (specifically, family 4 subfamily G), G protein-coupled receptor (ancestrally, as with other olfactory receptor genes, but functionally not active as a pseudogene)
01

Overview

Olfactory receptor family 4 subfamily G member 2 pseudogene (OR4G2P) is a human gene classified as a pseudogene within the olfactory receptor family, specifically subfamily G, member 2. Pseudogenes are segments of DNA that resemble functional genes but are non-functional due to mutations or deletions that prevent their expression or the production of functional proteins. Although olfactory receptor genes normally encode G protein-coupled receptors responsible for odor detection, OR4G2P lacks coding potential and does not produce a functional receptor protein. As such, it has no known biological function or direct involvement in disease or therapy.
