Overview

Olfactory receptor family 4 subfamily K member 1 (OR4K1) is a member of the olfactory receptor gene family, which encodes for proteins that recognize odorant molecules in the nasal epithelium and initiate neuronal responses responsible for the perception of smell. OR4K1 is a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) with the characteristic seven-transmembrane domain structure shared by many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors. Its main role is facilitating G protein-mediated transduction of odorant signals. The gene is located on chromosome 14 and is part of the largest gene family in the human genome[1][2][3][4][6][7][8].
