Olfactory receptor family 4 subfamily K member 2 (OR4K2) is a member of the olfactory receptor family, which are G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) responsible for the recognition and transduction of odorant signals in the nose, ultimately triggering the perception of smell. These receptors share a 7-transmembrane domain structure with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome, and each receptor typically arises from a single coding-exon gene. While OR4K2 participates in the olfactory signaling pathway, it has limited characterized roles outside the olfactory system and is not recognized as a drug target or biomarker in clinical medicine[1][2][7][8].
