Olfactory receptor family 4 subfamily L member 1 (OR4L1) is a G protein-coupled receptor expressed primarily in the olfactory epithelium and responsible for the recognition and G protein-mediated transduction of odorant signals, initiating neuronal responses that trigger the perception of smell[1][3][6][7]. It shares a seven-transmembrane domain structure with other GPCRs and forms part of the largest gene family in the human genome. Members of this receptor family display broad ligand specificity for odorant molecules; activation of OR4L1 contributes to the molecular basis of olfactory coding but it is not currently implicated in pharmacological targeting nor in common diagnostic or therapeutic applications[1][3].
