Overview

Olfactory receptor family 4 subfamily M member 1 (OR4M1) is a member of the large olfactory receptor family of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) characterized by a 7-transmembrane domain structure[1][2][7]. These receptors are expressed primarily in the olfactory epithelium, where they detect odorants and initiate neuronal responses responsible for the perception of smell[2][1]. OR4M1 is also a receptor for the hormone asprosin, possibly at the surface of hepatocytes, promoting glucose release[1][4]. The family is the largest in the human genome, though most members—including OR4M1—are not commonly pursued as drug targets[6]. Diseases associated with OR4M1 include Wiedemann-Rautenstrauch syndrome, but clinical targeting or pharmacological modulation of this receptor is not established[1].
