Olfactory receptor family 4 subfamily M member 2 (OR4M2) is a member of the large olfactory receptor family, which are G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) responsible for detecting odorant molecules. These receptors share a seven-transmembrane domain structure and play a key role in the molecular recognition and signal transduction processes that underlie the sense of smell. The OR4M2 gene encodes a protein expressed mainly in olfactory sensory neurons but may also be found in other tissues. Dysregulation or genetic variants of olfactory receptors have been linked with certain developmental syndromes but OR4M2’s direct involvement in specific diseases remains under-investigated. There are no known clinical drugs targeting this receptor; its primary ligands are endogenous odorant molecules that activate the receptor to trigger olfactory signaling pathways
