Olfactory receptor family 4 subfamily M member 2B (OR4M2B) is a protein-coding gene in humans that encodes a 7-transmembrane domain G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) expressed in the olfactory epithelium. OR4M2B is predicted to be involved in the detection of odorant molecules as part of the initial step of olfactory signal transduction. These receptors are located in the plasma membrane of sensory neurons and trigger intracellular signaling cascades via coupling to olfactory-specific G proteins upon binding volatile chemical stimuli. OR4M2B belongs to a large family of olfactory receptors, with high sequence diversity, and it is thought to contribute specific odor recognition rather than playing a known role in human disease or pharmacology[2][1].
