Olfactory receptor family 4 subfamily N member 4 (OR4N4) is a human protein that belongs to the olfactory receptor family, specifically the subfamily N, member 4. Olfactory receptors, including OR4N4, are G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) characterized by a 7-transmembrane domain structure. They are responsible for detecting odorant molecules in the nose, which initiates a neuronal response leading to the perception of smell. OR4N4 is encoded by a single coding-exon gene and, like other members of its family, mediates G protein-mediated transduction of odorant signals. The olfactory receptor family is the largest gene family in the human genome. OR4N4 itself has limited evidence for involvement in disease, with a rare association reported with Mayer-Rokitansky-Kuster-Hauser Syndrome Type 1. There are no known therapeutic drugs or biomarker roles for this receptor at present[1][2][3][4][5][7][8][9].
