Olfactory receptor family 4 subfamily N member 4C (OR4N4C) is a predicted G protein-coupled receptor located in the plasma membrane and involved in the detection of odorant molecules, initiating a neuronal response responsible for the perception of smell[5][2][4][9]. Like other olfactory receptors, it features seven transmembrane domains and transduces odorant binding via G protein-mediated signal cascades[2][3][7]. These receptors are encoded by single exon genes and comprise the largest gene family in the human genome, mainly facilitating the recognition and transduction of chemical signals related to olfaction[2][7]. While olfactory receptors are expressed predominantly in the nasal olfactory epithelium, some evidence suggests extranasal expression with unknown functions[7].
