Olfactory receptor family 4 subfamily R member 3 pseudogene (OR4R3P) is annotated in the human genome as a pseudogene, meaning it is a DNA sequence that is homologous to a functional gene (in this case, an olfactory receptor) but carries mutations (such as nonsense or frameshift changes) that are typically thought to disrupt the capacity to encode a functional receptor protein[2][3][4]. Olfactory receptor pseudogenes are common in the mammalian genome and are generally regarded as nonfunctional remnants reflecting the evolutionary turnover of this large gene family[3][4]. There is no evidence that OR4R3P encodes a functional protein or acts as a therapeutic target in humans. Pseudogenes like OR4R3P do not initiate typical olfactory signaling functions, and their biological roles, if any, are limited to possible noncoding RNA regulation or as “zombie”/“pseudo-pseudogenes” in rare cases—though there is currently no published evidence for such function for this gene in humans[3][4].
