Olfactory receptor family 4 subfamily S member 1 (OR4S1) is a human protein encoded by the OR4S1 gene, located on chromosome 11 (11p11.2)[1][5]. It belongs to the large family of olfactory receptors, which are G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) that detect odorant molecules in the nasal epithelium and initiate the neuronal signals responsible for the perception of smell[1][3][6]. These receptors share a 7-transmembrane domain structure typical of GPCRs and play a critical role in signal transduction initiated by odor recognition[1][3]. OR4S1 is a functional receptor and not a pseudogene[4]. While thousands of olfactory receptors exist in the human genome, OR4S1 does not have established direct links to specific diseases, drugs, or therapeutic applications. Its primary role is limited to the biology of the olfactory system[1][3][6].
