Overview

Olfactory receptor family 4 subfamily S member 2 (OR4S2) is a member of the large olfactory receptor gene family, which encodes G protein-coupled receptors that interact with odorant molecules in the nose to initiate neuronal signals underlying the perception of smell[1][2][8][9]. Like other olfactory receptors, OR4S2 has a 7-transmembrane domain structure and signals via G protein-mediated pathways. Although olfactory receptors as a group have been proposed to have roles outside the olfactory system, OR4S2 itself is primarily cataloged for its sensory function; there is no evidence it is involved in major disease processes or targeted by therapeutic drugs[1][2][9].
