Olfactory receptor family 5 subfamily AC member 2 (OR5AC2) is a human protein-coding gene belonging to the large family of olfactory receptors, which are specialized G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) involved in the detection of odorant molecules in the nose[6][5][2][4]. These receptors initiate a neuronal response that triggers the perception of smell, sharing a characteristic 7-transmembrane domain structure with many other neurotransmitter and hormone receptors[6][5]. As part of the olfactory signaling pathway, OR5AC2 contributes to the molecular mechanisms underlying human olfaction[6][5]. While genetic associations with certain diseases such as cataract and prostate cancer have been reported, OR5AC2 itself is not considered a direct pharmacological or therapeutic target and does not currently have recognized roles in drug action, biomarker use, or adverse safety profiles[6].
