Olfactory receptor family 5 subfamily AK member 2 (OR5AK2) is a member of the largest family of G protein-coupled receptors in the human genome, primarily responsible for the detection of odorant molecules in the nose[1][5]. These receptors possess a characteristic seven-transmembrane domain structure and initiate neuronal signaling by coupling to G proteins upon ligand (odorant) binding, which leads to the perception of smell[1][4][5]. OR5AK2 is encoded by a single exon gene located on chromosome 11 and acts as an odorant receptor in the olfactory epithelium. While olfactory receptors are typically associated with sensory function and not targeted by drugs, some have been implicated in non-olfactory tissues and in rare disease associations. However, OR5AK2 has no established therapeutic, diagnostic, or drug-interaction roles as of current knowledge[4][5].
