Olfactory receptor family 5 subfamily AM member 1 pseudogene (OR5AM1P)

Target
OR5AM1P
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, G protein-coupled receptor (family, but gene is classified as a pseudogene)
01

Overview

Olfactory receptor family 5 subfamily AM member 1 pseudogene (OR5AM1P) is a human pseudogene belonging to the olfactory receptor (OR) gene family, specifically family 5, subfamily AM. Unlike functional olfactory receptor genes, which encode G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) responsible for odorant recognition and neuronal signal transduction in the sense of smell, OR5AM1P is classified as an unprocessed pseudogene, meaning it does not produce a functional olfactory receptor protein. Olfactory receptor pseudogenes are common in the human genome and are the result of evolutionary processes leading to the inactivation of genes no longer under positive selection. There is currently no evidence that OR5AM1P has direct biological, pharmacological, or clinical relevance, nor is it considered a therapeutic target.

Mechanism of action

Not applicable (no known active protein product)

03

Biological functions

None established for pseudogene itself (for functional olfactory receptors: signal transduction of olfactory stimuli)
04

Disease associations

None known (for pseudogene; olfactory receptor pseudogenes generally do not have established disease associations)
05

Safety considerations

None known, as the locus is a pseudogene and is not targeted therapeutically
06

Interacting drugs

None known (as a pseudogene, does not encode a functional protein target for drugs)
07

Biomarkers

None known
