Overview

Olfactory receptor family 5 subfamily B member 2 (OR5B2) is a human protein encoded by the *OR5B2* gene and belongs to the large family of olfactory receptors. These receptors are a subclass of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) with a 7-transmembrane domain structure. OR5B2 mediates the recognition of and response to odorant molecules in the nose, initiating neuronal signaling that enables the perception of smells. While olfactory receptors as a family are highly diverse and expressed mainly in the olfactory epithelium, OR5B2's primary known function is in the G protein-mediated transduction of odorant signals. There is no current evidence of OR5B2 serving as a drug target, being involved in disease pathogenesis, or being clinically actionable as a biomarker, nor are specific interacting drugs or safety concerns identified for this receptor.
