Overview

The olfactory receptor family 5 subfamily BR member 1 pseudogene (OR5BR1P) is a non-functional olfactory receptor gene (pseudogene) in humans, and as such does not encode a functional protein. Olfactory receptor pseudogenes arise from gene families that normally code for G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) involved in odorant recognition and signal transduction in the olfactory system. However, as a pseudogene, OR5BR1P is generally considered to lack biological function due to mutations that prevent it from producing an active receptor protein[2][1]. There are no reported links to disease, therapeutics, drug interactions, or biomarker usage for OR5BR1P. While some olfactory receptor pseudogenes have rare regulatory or evolutionary significance in other species, there is currently no evidence for such roles in OR5BR1P in humans[6][2].
