Olfactory receptor family 5 subfamily D member 13 (OR5D13) is a member of the large olfactory receptor family of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), characterized by a 7-transmembrane domain structure[1][2][3][4]. OR5D13 binds odorant molecules in the nose, initiating a neuronal response via G protein-mediated signal transduction that leads to the perception of smell[1][2][3][5]. These receptors are encoded by single coding-exon genes, and the olfactory receptor gene family constitutes the largest gene family in the human genome[1][3]. The OR5D13 gene is considered a segregating pseudogene: some individuals possess a functional allele, while others have a non-functional version[1][3]. OR5D13 may have roles beyond olfaction, but primary function is odorant detection[4]. There are no known drugs directly targeting OR5D13, nor is it a major therapeutic target outside its sensory function[1][3][4].
