Overview

Olfactory receptor family 5 subfamily D member 16 (OR5D16) is a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) encoded by the *OR5D16* gene in humans. It is primarily expressed in the olfactory epithelium of the nose, where it interacts with specific odorant molecules to initiate neuronal signals responsible for the perception of smell. Like other olfactory receptors, OR5D16 displays the canonical seven-transmembrane (7TM) domain structure characteristic of class A GPCRs, mediating signal transduction via G proteins. OR5D16 is one of many diverse olfactory receptors and is not currently linked to disease phenotypes, drug modulation, or biomarker roles. Alternative names include Olfactory receptor 5D16, OR11-154, and HsOR11.11.31. Its function is confined to sensory signal recognition and transduction in the olfactory system rather than therapeutic or pathological processes.
