Target
OR5D18
Molecular classification
G protein-coupled receptor, Receptor, 7-transmembrane protein
01

Overview

Olfactory receptor family 5 subfamily D member 18 (OR5D18) is a human protein-coding gene encoding a receptor that interacts with odorant molecules in the nose, initiating a neuronal response to trigger the perception of smell. It is part of the largest gene family in the human genome and belongs to the G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) superfamily, characterized by a seven transmembrane domain structure like many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors. OR5D18 is involved in the recognition and transduction of odorant signals through G protein-mediated pathways; the canonical pathway involves the activation of adenylyl cyclase and subsequent cAMP signaling. The gene does not have established roles in disease nor identified drug interactions and is a representative member of olfactory receptors responsible for the diversity of human olfactory perception
