Overview

Olfactory receptor family 5 subfamily F member 2 pseudogene (OR5F2P) is a non-functional gene in humans that belongs to the large olfactory receptor gene superfamily, specifically the family 5, subfamily F, member 2. Olfactory receptor pseudogenes represent sequences that have lost their protein-coding capacity through mutation or truncation, and thus do not participate in sensory signaling or have druggable properties[2][4]. More than 70% of the human olfactory receptor genes are pseudogenes, likely due to reduced selective pressure for olfactory function over evolutionary time in primates[4]. There are no known biological functions, disease associations, or pharmacological agents acting on OR5F2P. Rarely, pseudogenes can have regulatory roles via RNA, but no evidence for such a function has been identified for OR5F2P[1].
